SCAMMERS ON CRAIGSLIST: BEWARE!!!!

I ALMOST GOT SCAMMED. YOU COULD BE NEXT!!!! (Part 1)

I'm writing this blog to warn people who use craigslist looking for pets, especially popular dogs such as yorkies, chihuahuas, pugs, pitbulls, golden retrievers and labradors.

I went online in search of getting a golden retriever or yellow lab. I decided to post an ad in CL. I posted that I wanted a young female that was already potty-trained, but wanted it donated to me because I was going to train it to be my Working Service Dog since my disabilities are increasingly getting worse to the point to where I spend more time in my wheelchair than using my walker.

They replied to the email that CL listed anonymously for that post. They sounded sincere, very christian, and legit. They claimed to be living in Dallas, Texas...just moved there 4 weeks prior, and their 12 wk old golden retriever was not allowed in their housing. They wanted someone who they could trust to be a great family to their little girl, Bambi.

They sent me 6 pics of her. Right then I should've been leary because 2 of those pics the puppy appeared to be much darker...redder in color than the other 4.

Not once would they tell me their names, addresses, phone #, and refused to show pics of themselves, their home, and their business. They claimed to of been married for 2 years, and unable to have children. Also that they both were deaf. They bought Bambi in their home state of Utica, New York right before they moved with hopes of getting her trained to service them.

In desperation for finding Bambi a good home in a hurry, and fear that if they didn't find someone willing to take her, that they would be forced to place her in their local high-kill shelter.

Out of fear for Bambi's life, and because I could sympathize with them because they were disabled (like me), I choose to help. That's when they hit me with this...

They wanted a re-homing fee of $200. They claimed that she was AKC certified, all shots UTD and would come with a one year health guarantee. To have her shipped via airplane it would cost an additional $150.

I told them that I couldn't afford $350. And I stated that I was under the impression that they were desperate, and the situation was urgent. They told me that they, too, didn't have much money, and that's part of the reason for asking for the re-homing fee. Then they continued to ask me how much I could afford, and I told them $150. They happily & eagerly accepted.

Now, keep in mind that I'm making a long story short. These ppl were sweet, very cunning, posed to be very religious, especially the way that they always ended their emails. And they sounded very desperate...pleaing with me to give their baby a new & wonderful forever family. But....I started realizing that there were a lot of gaps in things that they would write about, and would say things that were totally different from one email to another. Basically about things that made you go "hmmmm."

Another thing that I want to clear-up and clarify in this blog. First off... I'm getting some nasty emails about it being my fault, or I wasn't following CraigsList "Rules" (which in the CL Community section in the "how to avoid scams" section it states that it's a "common-sense" rule..not a CL rule), that it served me right for buying from breeders, and the list goes on.

My point is that I NEVER CONDONE ADOPTING OR BUYING PETS FROM BREEDERS, NOR DO I AGREE IN ADOPTING FROM...1) High-kill shelters, because the outrageous adoption fees just help pay for the injectible drug used to euthanize animals, ...and 2) I try to steer clear of no-kill shelters because all of those pets already stand a chance. What I DO condone (and believe in) is that I only rescue animals that are in a drastically urgent and/or emergency situations.

Point & case noted that I am...1) an active animal rights activist, and...2) I'm active in speaking out against animal abuse & cruelty. Animals including birds have been my whole life's calling. I own a Triton Cockatoo (rescued from a parrot-stealing operation,... a Quaker parrot that was rescued from a couple who were abusing it by beating it all the time,... my Maine Coon cat that suffered from living in deplorable conditions at his owners pet store the 1st 12 wks of his life,...and a chihuahua that had been rescued from a large puppy mill operation.

Back to my blog....When they asked me to send the $150 Western Union they promised to ship her that very day. Somehow, mysteriously, they knew exactly what to do. They explained that they knew exactly which airplane made same day deliveries for pets, all about tracking the flight, what I needed when I went to pick her up, etc. When they asked for the money Western Union all bells went off in my head.

Immediately I called Indianapolis International Airport and asked if I could pre-pay a shipment of an animal by credit card that would be coming from Dallas, Texas and arriving at Indianapolis, Indiana, so she could safely be delivered. The Customer Service Representative said "Yes." I was shocked, yet pleased, that I did NOT have to Western Union any money & that I'd have a receipt in-hand showing that I did pay for their golden.

So, I emailed them back and told them that (just so it would make the transaction more believable since it felt too good to be true) I needed some information from them.

At this point, (from the 1st letter written by them up until now) I had absolutely no clue as to what their first and last names were, their business that they claimed to own, their phone or cell number, etc. But the one question I had asked them in their first email... that they NEVER answered back on was this one..."How did you find my ad on CL all the way from Texas to Indiana?"

Now, the only questions that I had decided to ask them was not illegal and considered invasion of privacy. I only asked them questions that I would of asked anyone else if I had been interviewing them for a job (I used to be a Manager of Toys r Us for years, & I had interviewed 1000's of ppl before).

I asked them for 3 references from people that were not related to them & that they knew for at least a year, their full names, addresses, phone #'s, their business' phone # & address, pics of them & their home with Bambi, their drivers license # with expiration date & which state it had been purchased at so that I could have a background check done on them, and (most importantly) how did they find out about my ad all the way from Texas to Indiana on CraigsList (they obviously were phishing)?

Well, needless to say, I got back a nasty email that said I had embarrassed them by all of the questions I had asked of and about them. That they just KNEW that I would do this to them (hmmmmm). That they couldn't believe how sweet, caring & devoted I was up until this email, They refused to give me any of the information that I had asked for, thereby ended the transaction plan of Bambi, and I never heard back from them.

It was a well-rehearsed, thought-up & choreographed scheme. I could tell that they had done this before, but they still weren't too smart from all of the "slipped" hints I found in each of their 5 emails.

If you're curious about all of the emails they had sent me...I have a completed document of everything that they wrote to me if you would like to review it. Just email me and ask for me to send it to you by email. Just put in the subject line "Craigslist scammers" so I know it's not junk mail.

Below is more information that I got from them before this whole thing ended.

HELPFUL HINTS TO AVOID SCAMMERS
*Not local
*Want you to send money thru Western Union, or by cash, or money orders
*The deal sounds too good to be true
*Most do make themselves sound religious
*Many are from South America, Africa, India, and Panama, but (like my case) can be in the States
*Does their pictures look too unrealistic
*DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS AND GET PERSONAL. If they cower or shut-down, or just get pissed then you know that they're scammers. A real person wouldn't hesitate to answer those questions.
*Most importantly...trust your gut feeling. I got a stomach ache right before I finally realized it was a scam. Your body knows you better than anyone else. If it doesn't feel right...it probably isn't.

IMPORTANT NOTE
1) Lets pass this note on. Copy & paste it in your blogs, on facebook, twitter, myspace, yearbook, etc. The word can spread real fast. We need to let these jackasses know that us Americans are smarter than them, and that they need to stop praying on poor, disabled, or even normal people here. To stay in their country and out of ours. We're having enough problems with our economy. We don't need this shit. We won't stand for it. We won't allow it. Let's push them out of the USA.

2) I will be adding and posting more information about this scam as I get the time to sit down and "really" give time to it.

    2. I too was looking for a Maltese puppy in surrounding states. I came across a so called breeder that had puppies in Alabama available. But found out she was a scam. She did not get any money from me as she was determined to get a deposit. I told her I only put deposit on something I for sure want and can see in person. So I must see the puppies first. To make a long story short her phone number is 4438638073. She was very determined for me to send a deposit to her Email (iTunes card) Sarah Graham733@gmail.com. gave the address of 2726 Muir Woods drive in Al 35763. Please be Leary of some people selling puppies. I came across a web site if you google name or phone numbers or email addresses it will take you to a web site where people have been scammed. I will be adding this information to that web site I also was able to pull up relatives. I did drive to the address to see the puppy and well guess what she was not there and informed me she had an emergency and had to leave. When I got to the address there was a package with name of Julia groark on the porch. be Leary of this name also as she pulled up as a relative to Sarah. but if I would send her a deposit she would rush to get back other wise I would have to wait. I informed her I would not be waiting and I will be reporting her as a scammer. I am posting this every where that maybe be looking for a dog or puppy

    5. Beware of people that won't show you any more pictures except for one that looks very staged of a dog because a lot of times they try to switch the dog out when you go see it. I was going to see supposedly a one year old Maltese puppy it turned out it was an old dog teeth were falling out and it had been in a puppy mill. People thought I wasn't very bright I guess the nipples were swollen it's feet were damaged from being on a cage floor. It had this discoloration all over its feet around its mouth and eyes from excessive licking and crying. Malteses can get if they have a certain allergy but normally you would see a little discoloration this was absolutely horrible like the poor thing it just been miserable and just obsessively chewing on its feet and crying. They didn't even want me to know where they lived they wanted me to meet them and they made the excuse that was because their neighborhood was kind of dangerous, Compton, CA. So I met him at the mall and I thought that was a possibility they might have lived in a bad neighborhood but he wasn't expecting me to figure out what he was trying to pull. I asked him to bring something of hers so that when she wrote home cuz it was a long drive that she would have something to Kamar down he couldn't give me one thing. He couldn't even bring any dog food nothing so the dog wasn't even his he'd probably just picked it up from somewhere. I cried for two days because I couldn't take the dog it was so sad I wanted to take it but I wasn't going to pay a ransom. And it needed excessive work done at a vet that I wasn't prepared for.

  3. I was contacted recently by a supposed seller who stated his mother had just passed and so he wanted to get rid of the pups which were supposedly hers.
At first I tell him I am aware of scams and he states I would only have to pay the courier once the pup arrives.
The next email however is directing me to wire money to the company in Douala Cameroon. I knew then that it was a scam and told them I would not wire them any money. Lets see what the next email reads. (They also seem to only reply during the morning hours, I have not received one email in the afternoon. Another thing I found fishy.)

  6. Thanks for your post, I was fishy when talking to someone about a husky. They seemed very genuine, but it seemed to good to be true and I was nervous when the money was just being sent through westernunion. Once I started asking personal questions they told me I shouldn't have gotten their hopes up. The only verification they gave me was a picture of the dog with "her" and when I googled it, a professor from york university showed up. She wouldn't even tell me how long she had been doing this so called study, so I reported the add and told her to never contact me again.

    1. First of all a 16 year old is in no way shape or form able to care for a puppy in the proper way. Secondly think about what your doing before you just act on it. If your going to take on a responsibility as large as having a puppy then make sure you can do it yourself and without the assistance of others. If you can't handle it yourself at that time then your most likely not ready. Common sense says to think things through and to smarten up.

  10. Here is the reply from CL to my inquiry about Pomeranian puppy: the email came from amypatria7@gmail.com these people always use first/last name +number email addresses:
I'm glad you wish to know about my Pomeranian puppy.I am sorry i will have to go straight into every detail about him. This is cus i do not have much time to put on this.He is called Lupor. He is 11 weeks old.He enjoys the company of children and other pets most.To me,he is very outstanding cus he listens so well to human commands. It is with regret that i am giving him out.

The reason that compels me to re-home Lupor is that,I just temporally moved to Richmond,Virginia. This is cus i have a 6months Military service and tactical skills re-orientation.I expected a more conducive work schedule that could favor Lupor.Unfortunately,I am almost 14 hours committed in the camp for tactical skills re-orientation.I therefore have very little time to take acute care of him as i used to do.I think i am depriving him from the love and attention he deserves.I am giving him out just for a token of $40.This $40 is for me to make an exact portrait of him. This will always give me memories of him.Note that, this token must be given from the bottom of your heart. This is show the degree of love you are prepared to shower on Lupor. Also, this will give you the stigma that to always remember that there is another family thinking of him.I must confess Lupor is the greatest thing that i have ever had and i cant just let him suffer with less attention.

To start with,i will like to know where you are located.I will also like to know briefly about you. Most importantly,i will need an assurance that you will take very good care of him.I will also like to make my terms very clear so we can do this as fast as possible since i don't have much time.I will have to ship him to you if you are not located close to me (in Richmond,Virginia).By so doing, you will have to pay for the transportation fare and the $40 token for his portrait. If you are around my location, you have to come in person to pick Lupor. In this case, the $40 will be handed over in person. If you are ok with the terms you get back to me asap so we can proceed.

    1. This is how I was scammed out of $325 dollars everyone
beware of Richmond, VA. The $325 is the minor down payment, then they stat they have taken the puppy to Global Pet Travel Agency an then they ask for $950 for a refundable insurance that you get back once delivered. All this has to be done through Western Union. I am embarrassed that I was was sucked in the first part of the scam, but the second part was easily verified when I called the number. The person that answered was not from this country and definitely had an African accent. At that point I knew the whole thing was a scam and there was no puppy. WARNING: If they want money through Western Union it is a SCAM!!!!

  15. Another scam;
Thanks for emailing regarding my Two Yorkie puppies which i am giving out for rehoming into any loving and caring home and sorry for getting back to you late was not in the country , they are male and female by names Tina & Kesy respectively, they are 11 getting to 12 weeks old. All AKC registered and up to date on all shots and vaccines like (Distemper, Para Influenza, bordetella, Parvo and Hepatitis,
Rabies shots etc). They have all their valid vet and vet registration papers here intact with me.
They are up for rehoming with a little fee into a potential pet loving home, this is due to the fact that my company is sending me to
work abroad(Australia) which i will spend a very long time for training and carrying them with me is going to be difficult and these leaves me with no other option but to re-home them into a caring and pet loving home,
a home that will offer the care and attention that they need.
Tina and Kesy have been my only family and have also being wonderful companions to me and thus I can't place them for sale, all I am interested
in is a family that will spoil them with love, care and attention.
About the puppies, they are already home, potty & pad trained, so they will easily get acquainted with your kids and any other home pets if at all you have one. All I want for them is a good, caring and
loving home and nothing more and If you can promise/assure me that you are going to provide them with the best, then I will be willing to let you have them.you know some people will want to adopt your pet not out
of the passion they have for pets but to later on resell them for money and that's one thing I'm trying to avoid. And others will take them in for breeding purposes.
Please find attached to this email some of their most recent pictures.
    Best regards
    Thanks And waiting
    Myers and Family

    After I replied with assurance that I'm not going to resell or breed the Yorkie, they replied with another email;

I am so impressed with your inquiry about adopting my puppies.I am have been looking for a home for them and not only a home but a forever home for Kesy(male) and Tina(female)they are AKC registered. Adorable and sociable with great personalities and very good
bloodline. They are vet-checked, up to date on shots and De-worming, and health guaranteed.. All the papers will accompany them. I am located now in Maryland from where i will be doing the shipping and delivery to your home. Before we proceed i will like to ask you some
    questions if you don't mind,
-Why are you interested in my puppy ?
-How is the nature of your job?
-Do you often go on Vacations or business trips?
-Where will the dog live during the day?
-Where will she sleep at night?
-What kind of activities do you want to do with the puppy?
-Where will you take the dog for veterinary care?
-Do you have any other pets? Do you have a family or roommates living with you?
-Have you ever had a dog before? If so, what happened to him or her?
-What would you do if you had to give up the dog for some reason in the future?
Sorry for all the questions alright, I just want to make sure that my babies have a good and caring home were ever they
may go. These puppies are 12 weeks old and all i am asking from you is just a re-homing fee of $250 for one puppy and $400 for both puppies which will cover for the change of ownership papers, vet release
    documents and flight.Thanks and i
will be waiting to read from you soon so that we could talk more on how you will be getting the puppy.
    Regards

I'm in CA so when he said he is in Maryland I got suspicious. So I asked him why would he look for adopter from out of state and I'm not going to give him the money until I have the dogs in my hand.
    After that he never replied.

      Hello,

There is a male and female available and are pure breed Siberian huskies. They

very playful and are all of absolute temperament as they also love
playing with kids and other household animals . They are 11 weeks old

  17. I also am going throug something very similar. Looking for English bulldog puppy in Chicago was the listing. When the seller emailed me back she said she had relocated to Georgia. Said her husband had died and he ran a breading business. She needed to get rid of them for 300.00 each. Text me that she had registered the puppy and the courier service will contact me. They called me 5 min after her text. Which I thought was strange. Sent me an email as well from a world care pet transmission service. Which when I Google could not be found, but something simular was found and the had a warning of pet scamming using their name. The real company said they would never as payment for there services to be wired. Which these people did. The faults company had a 24 hr customer service line when that number was called a recording asked for your name then rang then said the Google subscriber is unavailable. I also called the number that the seller Jessica bhoone had from another number than mine and it stated the text now subscriber is not available. I know that is a texting app. Also when the "company " called me it came up as a pvt number and the guy had a very heavy accent. He also really stressed directions on how to wire money. Also told me to make sure I tell then that I am wiring money to a friend or relative not to a company. He said it will cost more on the wiring fee if I tell them I'm sending money to a company.

If they respond I ask what the cross streets are of thier location. If it takes more than a minute or two to respond, I assume they are looking up my city on a map and continue with more personal questions about thier location, where they are from, etc. One of the best give a ways to a scam is misspelled words or missing words, improper grammar and last names that are in the singular form such as Tom Robert, or Dan Jone.

  22. Wish i found this blog sooner, the scammers on cl got my 2400 cause i was too stupid to catch on.
Wanted to buy a bengal kitten, normally runs 1000 but they said id get it for 300. So then they ask the delivery agency, showed me a site but i couldnt find it normally on google. Had a bullshit tracking thing and everything.
They got me to send through money gram, i wanted to use credit card but they only used cash transfer. They started charging me for the cage 285, and a insurance for 750 saying that the airport needed it. They kept making excuses why they couldnt deliver and i paid another 800 cause they said they would refund me after delivery of cat. Those lying sobs started making more charges and thats when i had enough. I started accusing them of being scammers and they assured they werent lying. The seller fed me this bs sob story about her daughter getting hurt to assure my faith.
Im trying to get a lawyer to sue them but they may be using fake names and fake addresses with fake phone numbers.
Also the pics they sent me were an older looking bengal not a kitten. I wish i can go kill them

  23. I think that it is just ridiculous to see some people who would stoop this low. I just went through this as well. I live in Texas but they live in Georgia. They said that they just recently moved there. My emails are very similar in format to how you guys are too. These people seem very compassionate about their puppies but also it just seems too good to be true.

    Beware of these numbers:

  25. Same situation here I live in Tampa Fl and saw a craigslist ad for a shihtzu/Chihuahua mix. So I sent a text message and received a message saying "we live in Maryland and will ship the puppy by plane after we receive the rehoming fee of 300 by money gram". I knew it was a scam right away they try to avoid questions and give ridiculous claims like we can have your puppy at your doorsteps by the end of the day.Unbelievable the lengths people will go to take your money. Please people be careful don't let some low life steal your hard earned money. Dont buy puppies from out of state it's not smart unless you know the person or they are a reputable company. I'm sure you can find the breed you want locally or at a local humane society.

  27. This is the latest scam attempt.Listed below is the reply email I received.

Hi, Sorry for the late response about my pom pup.I will have to go straight into every detail about him.He is called Lupor. He is 11 weeks old.Has been vet checked and has his shots up to date.

It is with regret that i am giving him out.The reason that compels me to re-home Lupor is that,I just temporally moved to Atlanta, GA.This is cus i have a 6 months Military service and tactical skills re-orientation.I expected a more conducive work schedule that could favor Lupor. Unfortunately,I am almost 14 hours committed at work daily.I therefore have very little time to take acute care of him as i used to do.I think i am depriving him from the love and attention he deserves.I am giving him out just for$60.This is for me to pay for a portrait of him to be drawn. This will always give me memories of him.Note that, this $60 must be given from the bottom of your heart. This will sound to me like an exchange gift and i will be pleased cus i can't stand the conscience to sell him.He is like a son to me.I must confess Lupor is the greatest thing that i have ever had and i cant just let him suffer with less attention.

To start with,i will like to know where you are located.I will also like to know briefly about you. Most importantly,i will need an assurance that you will take very good care of him.I will also like to make my terms very clear so we can do this as fast as possible since i don't have much time.I will have to ship him to you if you are not located close to me (in Atlanta, GA).By so doing, you will have to pay for the transportation fare and the $60 for his portrait. If you are around my location, you have to come in person to pick Lupor up.In this case, the $60 will be handed over in person. If you are ok with the terms you get back to me asap so we can proceed.

  28. I responded to 2 different ads for puppies for sale on Columbus craiglist. I sent a text to reply. First one responded immediately, asking what kind of breed was I looking for. I explained I had 2 dogs: a dachshund and a beagle and has recently lost my 15 yr old maltese. I wasn't looking for any special breed but rather a good family dog. Next text asked for my email so they could text me pictures of their puppy. The pictures of 2 different Maltese puppies were clearly stock photos. Immediately I got another text asking if I'd looked at the email. Them another, saying it would cost me $250 to fly the pup from Provo, Utah! I knew it was a scam then and responded no, I wouldn't be sending any money and that my husband is a cop. Didn't get any more texts or emails. Second inquiry responded a week later but claimed to be in South Carolina.

  29. I don't know if I'm being scammed, you tell me. So about 2 days ago i posted an ad on CL and today received a text about a man who claims to be a breeder with a German shepherd. So after saying yes to him asking if I was interested, he said I could have him free, all I had to do was post some ads on another site for him. The dogs he wanted me to post weren't even German shepherds. When I asked him he said, "oh, the German shepherd is for you". He sent to pictures. Both pics look to have different dogs. What should do, he wants to meet up tomorrow to to give me the dog.

  30. Hello,
Thanks for your interest in our puppies. We still have 5 puppies available Jake(Male),Lena(Female), Bella(Female),Lara(Female) and Jim (Male) So please see them on our web page.
They have been potty (paper) trained. These puppies have been raised in my home with regular visits from my children and grand children which has helped a great in socializing them. They love to be cuddled and I always make sure I give them the greatest attention. So I am in search of pet lovers who can love and care for these puppies like i do. Everyone must be aware of the love and attention this puppies need. Honestly i do not breed and sell puppies for a living because i have a stable job. I have always been a good lover to puppies. I adopted their parents some couple of years back and because every one admired them so i decided to breed them. At the time i already noticed the prices of puppies were too much for some good and loving pet homes to afford so i breed and adopt out my puppies when need be. I also do it sometimes for the sake of experience. Please get back for advice on the next step to take
towards getting the puppy in your home. We are asking $00 for a puppy. However, I will also like to know the following from you before we proceed.
-Where about are you located? City and state??
-Which puppy are you interested in taking?
Thanks for taking your time to read through this email and I hope to read from you again.
    Warmest Regards

Would you be able to tell me if this is a scam? Thanks!

  31. Second part:
You will be sending the money before i have her shipped. Bella will cost $85 plus Shipping of $220 making a total of $305 so know all what you will spend in other to have her will be $305 and more over it will takes just some few hours flight duration to arrive there ,And again know once we have everything done and your baby being shipped out i will send you and email with the full flight details (Delivery recipient Airway bill number, and the Tracking number) and from there you will know the departure and the arrival time of your baby ok. The shipping process normally takes a couple of hours to complete, though sometimes it could take a little longer, how ever the whole process hardly exceeds one whole day.
Your puppy will come with a handbook that explains more on her life styles as well as feeding, and toilet habits. She will also come with her food menu , hand booklet (which explains everything about the puppy, her likes and dislikes) C.d Guide, Crate, Playing toys and a Puppy Care Kit which includes some helpful information, that should help you facilitate the transition process in your home. I'll advice you to get the following grooming tools within a month or two from now:Shampoo,Conditioner,Pin Brush, Nail Clippers, Ear/Pad Trimmer,Ear Lotion,Scissors. About food,I feed all my puppies Wellness dog food, Grain-free or Purina One and NuVet Vitamin's that are excellent for them. I choose to feed Purina One because it is relatively modest and is readily available across the United States at most department or grocery stores. There are many opinions on which dog food to use.
This is a decision only you can make, but keep in mind Purina has been making dog food for over 50 years and they do extensive research on nutrition and protein. Other dog foods may cost more but that doesn't necessarily means they are better.
Get back to me with the following information so I can start the flight and ownership arrangements.
Names of receiver/owner of the puppy:
    Address and telephone number:
    Closest airport:
Preferred hours of Pickup of puppy from airport:
You should have no worries in regards to that and more over i am a God fearing person and can't take your money and don't have your baby shipped out and more over if we actually wanted money for these dogs, then we could post ads for them asking the regular $2500 and we are sure people will contact us willing to pay such amounts but the tendency is that those who will offer to pay such amounts are certainly very rich people that will spend more time making their money than giving the love and care that their puppies need. We must give out these puppies at this early age because they will be so much work on us when they come of age so why shall we take your money and still keep the dog. A good home for the puppy matters much than the $305 we can take from any one. Besides we do not depend on breeding and selling puppies to put food on our table because we have primary jobs. We breed for the sake of experience and though it comes with some headache, we do not ask for money as a compensation. And more over My wife and I are worth more than $305,why should i take your $305 and don't have this puppy shipped? So to assure you i and my wife has be very decent so we see no need cheating on others when they are really in need on something and more over we are God fearing people and we don't think we will make our life's to be wanted by the F.B.I,Police or Lawyers because of $305.So please we do give you our words and assurance that as soon as you have the money sent.Everything will be done and your puppy will be shipped out without any waste of time nor delay ok.The law is against those who cheat others so please trust us on this once we receive the money, We shall place the order for the shipping and get back to you with the Airway bill number,Delivery Recipient and the Tracking Number is that okay.

Playing with our emotions PLUS stealing our money. I feel really ridiculous after falling for their B.S. They were so slick, though. I didn't get the christian runaround, but it was a super slick operation, complete with e-shipping confirmation (which looked very real). They wanted my money via money gram at WalMart. When I got there, WM said it had to be a debit card. I felt rushed and moved forward......no recourse as far as I know. Am going to try to report them to someone though. Haven't read all the stuff here yet. Unbelievable.

Scammers:In Regards to payment you will send me the money only after i drop her off at the delivery agency and get back to you with a tracking number and you verify , with the tracking number you can call and verify with the agency to make sure the puppy is very healthy and ready for departure before you send me the money .This is to ensure we both are on the safe side. Payment is Via Money Gram OR Walmart 2 Walmart..

  38. No offense to anyone personally but if you get scammed by something like this then you must be an idiot. Sending any amount of money to hold/buy an animal from someone you don't really know before seeing said animal is dumb. These scammers wouldn't keep doing this if people would just start using their brains. Good luck and deal with proven and trusted breeders.

    P.S.
When you adopt a dog you are welcoming them to the family and the forever should be part of the family. There are very few legit reasons to have to rehome your dog to a stranger. Unfortunately it happens too often because people don't understand the commitment necessary and lack the ability to control their impulses. Make sure your READY to adopt a puppy and care for it for his or hers entire life for fuck sake.

Bank accounts should be verified. A copy of their drivers license should be on file. If you have nothing to hide them these rules shouldn't bother you.

  45. I decided to respond to an ad for Shih Tzu Puppies.
    http://cnj.craigslist.org/pet/6111006475.html

    Red Flags;
1)So in my outbox the email shows going to a guy named Fred and the email that the woman, ann, responded with did not list fred as her husband when she included his name. The woman also responded from a different email address than the email address that my email went to.

    2) The puppies are listed as mix breed shih tzu/min pin and the woman responded to my email saying that the dogs are full bred shih tzu.

    3) when i asked her location she told me that she lives in leesburg, virginia - when the ad was a central nj ad.

    4) she stopped responding when i said that i wanted to pick the puppies up in person paying with cash instead of using a transportation system.

The ad is still up and the email addresses used in this scam are :
    -fredswa@gmx.com
    -annbellswa@gmail.com

This was the first email received-
    Hi
Thanks so much for your love and concern towards my great pups i
have for adoption, they are pure breed Shih Tzu pups. I have 2 of
them, that is a female and a male, all of them are in need of good and
caring home. They are vet checked and vaccinated and will come with
their papers needed. This puppies are very playful and are all of
absolute temperament as they also love playing with kids and other
household animals . There are 11 weeks old and our brother and
sisters. Am giving them out for adoption with a little adoption fee
reason been that i can,t provide them with all the love and care they
deserved from me. My husband decided i go back to school to further my
studies more to than i own a part time job so as you can see i can,t
really keep them any longer. I will be very willing to let you own
one of my pups provided you promised never to sell them nor uses them
for money making or do dogs games. With do respect i will be much safe
if you can answer of my questions as stated below...........

-Have you own a pet before?
    - Do you have a vet doctor?
    -where precisely are you locate
    - Are you a breeder?
    - will you take both or just one? if one what sex?
-Do you have pets loving children at home?
-Will you take good care for the babies like your own child?

All i need is just a very caring and loving home for our babies where
they will be well loved and spoiled to rotten. Thanks and will be
waiting to read from you again.

  46. I just dealt with the exact same group of criminals pretty much verbatim, only my scammers were Ann and Abel annbellswa@gmail.com and my puppy was a Shih Tzu. I only responded to an ad from "Fred" and was really confused when I received that first email from "Ann Bell" at a completely different email address. How I didn't catch on after the first email is beyond me as her "husband's" name was Abel Bell. Put them together and it's Annabel Bell...Wow, so clever...Not! I think that after the spell I was under from the overwhelming cuteness of my never to be puppy wore off and I re-read the message, I started to notice the broken English. Then she referred to her "mum". I would venture to guess that they are not from our country as they went from broken English to British English, then back. Anyway, same story, husband made her go back to school, they relocated to Leesburg, VA conveniently days before and only 15 hours away from my location. My instincts told me almost instantly that it was a scam but I kept going with it to see how far they would take it. Obviously when I offered to drive there to meet them and pick her up the next day, "she" got mad and said they weren't willing to wait. Soooo I still had to keep messing with them and suddenly it was cool if I picked up my puppy from the airport after I sent my $ via Money gram. Once they confirmed my $ was sent, my puppy would arrive in under 5 hours. Amazing huh?? When I asked more ?'s like how was that possible, it was radio silence...lol. I think it's sick that people do this. Even though my red flag radar went off after the 2nd email, you still hope it's not true...I mean what kind of scum does that?!? As far as they knew, my young daughter was "beside herself with joy", YES, I layed it on thick. Clearly hurting young children means nothing to these kind of people. I'm just glad I caught on so quickly and told my daughter it was a scam, while secretly hoping it wasn't and I could surprise her. If I hadnt caught on, my babe would've been crushed. Shame on these people!

  55. Someone tried to scam me with adorable Golden Retriever pups with a transportation fee. They first said they were near where I lived and then said they had relocated in Dallas, Texas. They asked very pertinent questions regarding the home I would be providing for their dog and it was very effective at gaining trust in them. The more I communicated with them, the more I saw holes in their story. They said the dogs were their son's who died but they were only 11 weeks old and they had already re-located to where their son had lived. Their e-mails are somewhat generic and didn't address my e-mails very well. They do seem to be foreign with broken English and that could be the reason for the form letter type e-mails. When pressed that my brother could come pick up the dog immediately because he actually lives in the Dallas area, I didn't hear back from them. Free pure bred Golden Retrievers was too good to be true. They try and get you with the transportation fees. Total scumbags of the Earth as far as I'm concerned. They really play on your emotions.

  61. Omg. I’ve been talking with this lady from Texas that said she wanted to rehome 2 Bengal kittens because her beautiful daughter Bella got killed on her way home from her piano lessons and every time she looked at the kittens it reminded her of her dead daughter. I almost fell for the Scam until the same thing happen I’m on Cape Cod Massachusetts of the ad was from Texas the more I spoke to her via text message I just became more and more suspicious She said that she was deaf and dumb and could not talk to me on the phone Her name is Anny at least that’s what she claimed it was so be where of this person Well the deaf part I bought but she certainly didn’t seem very dumb when she wanted me to get an Amazon gift card for $309 and the fact that she was at the airport within an hour of me texting her put red flags up. A few of her text messages she put the word puppy in instead of kittens I questioned her on that and she said that it was just a typo I’m so glad I googled woman giving away free Bengal kittens because her daughter died !!! I’m sitting here reading all the scammers that is saying things like this and it’s absolutely disgusting but I think you very much and I’m glad I asked a lot of questions that were not answered they wouldn’t send any real live pictures of the kittens everything she sent were just stock photos I believe of Bengal kittens. 76. Beware with pandemic excuses too.A puppy I was possibly interested in adopting was 3hrs away by car. I offered to pick puppy up myself rather than ship her for the puppys sake & to see at least the mother or both parents.Seller e mailed with pandemic & work excuses(7 days a wk 24/7??)as to why it was better to ship her to avoid "stress"(theirs not the puppy!)Also all kinds of grammar errors in the e mail. Id been doing research & hadnt sent $ thank goodness. As the saying goes "buyer beware"... with pandemic online pet scams huge increase in #s. Nowadays with online access to information on how to or not to do something it's much easier to avoid scams. Also word of mouth to friends & family about not being scammed online for any reason is a good thing to do. Some people are older & not as aware of online fraud.
